GlobalProtect App Lets Organizations Extend Safe Application Enablement to Mobile Devices

SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Palo Alto Networks™ (NYSE: PANW), the network security company, today announced the availability of GlobalProtect for the Android mobile operating system.  The app allows enterprises to extend the same next-generation firewall (NGFW) security policies to users both inside and outside of the network and allows them to use the mobile platform and applications of their choice without compromising network security.

"Many security managers are struggling to develop policies around mobility and BYOD that let them protect their network without restricting the functionality of mobile devices. We believe that the best way to achieve this is with a mobile app like GlobalProtect for Android that extends network connectivity to a NGFW that establishes precise network controls for the safe enablement of applications," said Rene Bonvanie, chief marketing officer at Palo Alto Networks. "Additionally, our work with leading mobile device management vendors allows our customers to easily implement GlobalProtect for Android on networks with existing mobile security products."

GlobalProtect can automatically connect users to the best available GlobalProtect gateway on a Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewall. As a result, organizations can consistently enforce security policies based on application, user, content, and device, regardless of where the user is located. Through the safe enablement of applications, users can access business and productivity tools while enjoying protection from mobile threats to the device and data.

GlobalProtect for Android is currently available for download from Google Play™. Customers must have a Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewall with the appropriate GlobalProtect gateway subscription in order to support the mobile device app.
